NAMI of the Greater Mississippi Valley is a community voice on mental illness, empowering people toward recovery. We provide support, education and advocacy to individuals living with mental illness and their families. We offer free signature education classes for family members, parents and caregivers of a loved one living with mental illness and classes for consumers of mental health services. We also offer a monthly family support group, a weekly Connection Recovery support group as well as a biweekly suicide bereavement support group. NAMI members also tell their story at various organizations throughout the community as part of In Our Own Voice, a public education presentation. Advocacy is vitally important in order to ensure funding for mental health services. We continue to see many cuts to these services at the state levels. Please contact your state representatives and senators and urge them to advocate on behalf of those who rely on access to mental health care in order to live independent and meaningful lives. Ask them to increase funds for these much needed services, not cut funding! Our annual fundraiser walk is every 1st Saturday in October during Mental Health Awareness Week. NAMIWalk provides us with almost all of our funding through private individual donations and business sponsorships. This affords us the ability to offer our services within the community. Check out our website for more information on how to get involved in NAMIWalk. Categories: Counseling < Read Less
